Hi, I'm Zack

10 notes &

I just got a haircut. The first in 5 months. I understand that most people are super opinionated, especially about things like their hair, but why must I be the one to tell the barber/stylist what to do? They are the professional, not me. I’m not the one that has to look at me on a regular basis. As long as my hair is easy to manage (no product, quick to deal with in the morning), I’m happy with it. I have no idea what I want to do or how it should look.

Why don’t we trust professionals more? What makes you think that I have any authority on this subject at all. You ask me what I want to do today? I want my haircut. That’s why I’m coming to you. Now do your thing. I’ll even let you be a bit creative.

The truth is, I don’t even dislike my haircut. The guy did a fine job. I look like I did a couple months ago when my hair was this short before. I just feel like I’m missing out on an opportunity to do something awesome with my hair. I’d gladly give up all this pampering bullshit places do now, just to have someone who can actually make a decision about what would be a good style for me. Even if they aren’t necessarily sure and just up for experimenting, I’d be down with that. Like I said, I’m not the one that looks at me all day.

Am I asking too much from the places I go? Are there places I can go that’ll decide this for me? There will probably cost me more money, right? Or is this something I should be more in charge of and I’m just neglecting my own personal responsibilities? Or should I delegate this responsibility to a friend?

  2. srcurran answered: not only are these professionals, they are liscenced professionals. you have to cut hair for 1500 hours before you can work!
  3. mentalreminder answered: barbers cut your hair, stylists style it. i’d say ask the stylist to go wild.
